General Description
Methanol (methyl alcohol), also known as wood alcohol or carbinol, is the simplest aliphatic alcohol with the chemical formula CH₃OH. It is a polar, colorless liquid fully miscible with water and many organic solvents. Industrial methanol is produced via catalytic synthesis from syngas (CO/CO₂ and H₂), derived from natural gas, coal, or biomass feedstocks.
